by Adamchik,William J — last modified Apr 02, 2013 03:00 PM
This is the 25th issue of the Financial Aid Newsletter. This publication is primarily for undergraduate and graduate students. It will help keep you informed on summer 2013 and fall 2013 financial aid requirements, processing, procedures, and more!
In this edition:
1. I’VE APPLIED FOR FINANCIAL AID FOR NEXT YEAR, NOW WHAT?
The Student Financial Aid Office will be creating award packages for continuing students for the 2013-2014 school year by June 1. Until then, we may contact you for additional information to complete your financial aid file. Regularly check your To Do List, available by logging into ULink, for important messages and forms. Be sure to watch your CardMail email account.
If you haven’t done so already, please log in to FAFSA.gov to transfer your (and your parent's, if applicable) 2012 IRS income tax information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval to provide the most accurate information on file for you.
If you have not already done so, now is the time to complete your 2013-2014 FAFSA online.
Since this year’s tax deadline is quickly approaching, you should have everything you need to apply for federal aid.
If eligible to do so, use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to automatically import your tax information into your FAFSA. It makes filing the FAFSA a breeze!
It is a good time to familiarize yourself with our Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.
Satisfactory Academic Progress is unique to financial aid and includes a minimum GPA requirement, the maximum time frame allowed to complete a degree, and pace – which compares total hours earned versus total hours attempted. We must monitor students’ academic progress for continued federal and state aid eligibility. A more detailed explanation of SAP can be found at louisville.edu/financialaid/satisfactory-academic-progress.
If you need academic assistance, please consult your academic advisor and/or the REACH Office.
Is your Financial Aid file complete? The Student Financial Aid Office encourages you to log into your ULink account to check your To Do List under the financial aid section on the Student Services Tab.
Read each message and follow the instructions. Print and submit any forms that may be listed, along with any required documentation as soon as possible to ensure your eligibility for financial aid is evaluated in a timely manner.
The UofL application for summer 2013 federal financial aid is available to submit via ULink. You must have a complete 2012-2013 financial aid file to apply, which includes a 2012-2013 FAFSA and all requested documentation.
Do not apply on ULink until you have finalized your summer enrollment. If you submit the online summer application before you finalize your summer enrollment, your awards may be delayed and may have to be adjusted.
During summer, federal financial assistance is available to eligible applicants who have remaining Pell Grant, TEACH Grant, and/or Stafford Loan eligibility.
NOTE: The borrower must indicate summer enrollment dates May 10, 2013 through August 13, 2013.
On select Thursdays during the months of April, May, June, July, and August, our office will be closed from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
We will be open from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The office will maintain standard office hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) every other day of the week (M-F). Please check our website for messages regarding our hours.
The Student Financial Aid Office keeps our website updated on an ongoing basis with information about current scholarship opportunities. You may view the scholarship page at louisville.edu/financialaid/scholarships.
On this website, be sure to check the Outside Scholarships section. From there, you can link to the outside scholarship web page to view all outside scholarships about which the Student Financial Aid Office has been notified. We encourage students to review this list periodically throughout the year; it is updated frequently with new information.
Under the heading of Departmental Scholarships/Assistantships/Fellowships, click on the "departmental awards" link to access current links to campus department and/or school websites where scholarships may be advertised. We also recommend students to check directly with the department and/or school in which they are studying to see if there are any scholarships available.
If you are aware you will be receiving a scholarship for the upcoming year, please report this information on our Report Other Aid Form at louisville.edu/financialaid/our-services/report-other-aid-resources.
