Below is a list of outside scholarships our office has received. We will continue to post outside scholarships on this webpage as we receive them. These scholarships, however, are not associated with the University and we suggest both students and parents read all scholarship applications carefully and read FinAid.Org's Scholarship Scam Alert prior to submitting any application fees.
Vanguard Scholarship Program

The Vanguard Scholarship Program provides merit-based scholarships of up to $10,000 to minority students pursuing studies in business, finance, economics, accounting, information technology, or the liberal arts. National Organization for Women Poster Contest

The National Organization for Women Poster Contest is available to female students. To enter, you must create a poster that may be used as part of a national campaign to challenge the media's use of violent, drug- addicted, starved, surgically- enhanced images of women and to fight against industries that profit from women s dissatisfaction with their bodies.. Nancy Larson Foundation Schp

The Nancy Larson Foundation is proud to sponsor three $1000 scholarships for college students studying to become elementary teachers. Junior and senior college students who have declared an elementary education major should submit a letter explaining what three traits they believe they have that will make them an excellent teacher. 2009-2010 SEVEN Fund Essay Competition

The S.E.VEN Fund (SEVEN) is announcing its 2009 - 2010 Student Essay Competition. This year they are seeking essays on inspiring new models of economic development from around the globe. The competition will award one (1) student prize of $10,000. The submission deadline is December 7, 2009 at midnight Eastern Standard Time (EST). Winners will be announced on February 7, 2010. Institute for Humane Studies Fellowship

Foreclosure.com College Scholarship

Foreclosure.com is looking for the most creative ideas on how to solve the current foreclosure crisis. The country is currently experiencing a very challenging and volatile period in real estate because of a recession that has hit homeowners everywhere very hard. It's possible that it could still get worse before it gets better. If you are a college student or incoming freshman and think you know "How to solve the foreclosure crisis" the organization wants to hear from you. They are willing to reward you for your efforts in the form of scholarship money. Submit an article (minimum 1,000 words, maximum 2,500) that describes your solution — it must be original and not plagiarized. It is acceptable to cite sources and statistics; however, they must be referenced within the article. The best five plans will be sent to Congress and to President Barack Obama himself. The winners will also receive cash prizes in the form of scholarships, as well as see their submissions published on Foreclosure.com. KRELL Institute Scholarship

Kentuckiana Mensa

Kentuckiana Mensa is offering scholarships to for students who are enrolled, for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited American Institute of postsecondary education, and be a resident of the area of a participating local group of American Mensa. For the general awards, that applicant need not to be a member of Mensa, nor qualified for Mensa and the general awards are unrestricted to age, race, gender, level of postsecondary education and financial need. Campus Discovery

Environmental Protection Scholarships

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet is offering Environmental Protection Scholarships. Scholarships are available to undergraduates who have completed at least 60 credit hours and to graduate students. Students in any area of environmental study are encouraged to apply. Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Epidemiology, Forestry, and Geology are disciplines of critical need. Each scholarship is intended to cover cost of in-state tuition and mandatory fees, room and board, and books at any of Kentucky?s publicly funded universities. Recipients must agree to work as a paid employee of the cabinet after graduation. The minimum work obligation is six months employment for each full semester of funded scholarship. David Hershberg Scholarship

This grant has been established by the World Affairs Council of Kentucky & Southern Indiana, an organization whose mission is to improve intercultural understanding through collaboration, coalition-building, diversified programming, and increased community involvement. A selection committee will evaluate applications on the basis of academic merit and the importance of study abroad for the personal, intellectual, and professional development of the candidate. Scholarship funds of up to $2,000 can be used to help defray the costs of international travel, lodging, and maintenance for a period of at least 21 days of study or research outside the United States. Eligibility for this grant is limited to any degree seeking student currently enrolled in a degree program at any accredited institution of higher learning in Metro Louisville and contiguous counties in Kentucky and Indiana. It is also available to any degree-seeking student whose permanent residence is in the same area and attends an accredited institution of higher learning outside the area. The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund

The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF) awards educational grants to women from developing countries whose graduate studies and future plans aim to benefit women and children in their respective regions. Commitment to this goal is an essential selection criterion. A woman is eligible to apply for an MMMF grant if she meets all the following criteria: 1. Have a record of service to women and/or children in her country. 2. Reside in the U.S. or Canada at the time she submits the application. 3. Be enrolled at an accredited U.S. or Canadian educational institution for the academic year 2008-09 and remain enrolled during the entire year of the grant. 4. Use the grant to continue to study for her degree. 5. Be a citizen of a World Bank lower or middle income member country and cannot be a U.S. Green Card holder or Canadian landed immigrant (Country Eligibility List) 6. Plan to return to a developing country in about two years after receiving the grant. 7. Demonstrate financial need. 8. Be at least 25 years old by December 31, 2009. 9. The Morality of Profit Global Competition

The SEVEN Fund is sponsoring a global competition inviting discourse on the morality of profit. During this yearlong program, we seek to assemble the definitive collection of essays on this topic. Writers are asked to submit essays of up to 3,000 words. Initial submissions will be accepted through February 28, 2010. SEVEN will award top honors to three essays, with a grand prize of $20,000, a second prize of $10,000, and a third prize of $5,000. The best pieces will be collected into a manuscript, which is intended for publication, and the program will culminate with an international conference in 2010. William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship for Minority Students

The Nonprofit Sector and Philanthropy Program (NSPP) of the Aspen Institute in Washington, DC, offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship three times annually. The fellowship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students of color. The Hearst Fellow serves as an intern with NSPP. Recipients may arrange with their colleges or universities to receive academic credit for this experience. The ideal candidate for this fellowship is a highly motivated continuing graduate or undergraduate student from an underrepresented community. She or he should have an excellent academic record and also have the following: (1) Outstanding research skills; (2) Demonstrated interest or experience in the nonprofit sector; (3) Excellent writing and communication skills; (4) Demonstrated financial need; and (5) American citizenship. F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program

The Army offers the F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program. Whether you want to become a Physician, Dentist, Veterinarian, Optometrist, Clinical or Counseling Psychologist, if you qualify, you could earn a full-tuition scholarship, plus a monthly stipend of more than $1,300. Benjamin A Gilman International Study Abroad Scholarship

The Gilman Scholarship is open to all US citizen undergraduates, in good academic standing. Eligibility Requirements include: (1) Applicant must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of their study abroad, (2) Applicant is applying to or has been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's accredited institution of higher education in the U.S, (3) Applicant is studying abroad for at least 4 weeks in one country. The National Research Council Associateship Programs

The NRC is administering the 2009 Postdoctoral and Senior Research Associateship Program. The programs provide opportunities for Ph.D., Sc.D, or M.D. scientists and engineers to conduct research of their own choosing.
