Community Engagement
Community Engagement is an umbrella phrase that describes the collaboration between higher education institutions and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. A campus that is "engaged" is one that is fully committed to the development, exchange, and application of knowledge, information and expertise for mutual benefit.
Community engagement can occur in the context of teaching, research and service.
Examples of Community Engagement in Research and Scholarship include:
- Community based participatory research
- Practice based research
- Scholarship
Community Engagement in Teaching may include:
- Community based learning
- Practice based learning
- Service learning
Community Engagement in Service may include:
- Community service
- Practice based service
- Civic engagement
- Outreach
