Graduate Awards
Graduate Scholarships, Assistantships and Awards are granted through the Department of English include the following:
Creative Writing Scholarship and Sara-Jean McDowell Creative Writing Award
Plattus Teaching Award
Award Amount: Varies by year, generally $500.00.
Available to: All English Department GTAs who are currently teaching.
Submission Guidelines:
Deadline: February 15
Graduate Teaching Assistantships
Award Amount: PhD-Level GTAships: 12-month award, $20,000/year and tuition remission
MA-Level GTAships: 10-month award, $15,500/year and tuition remission
Available to: All Ph.D and M.A. applicants and continuing M.A. students not previously funded. This is a purely merit-based award.
Submission Guidelines: Complete the Graduate Teaching Assistantship Application (Link to PDF)
and submit it to the Graduate Program, Department of English.
Deadline: January 5
University Fellowships
Award Amount: Currently $20,000 annually plus tuition remission.
Available to: The Director of Graduate Studies nominates outstanding Ph.D. applicants for these university-wide awards.
Submission Guidelines: Applicants must have a completed GTA application and a completed admissions file by the deadline. No separate application is required.
