UofL Creative Writing students win Flo Gault Poetry Prize

Congratulations to our Creative Writing students, who have won the three top spots and one honorable mention of Sarabande Books’ annual Flo Gault Poetry Prize. This means that students from the English Department at UofL received four of the five top prizes. These results highlight the abundance of talented poets in our Creative Writing program. The honorees are:

2020 FLO GAULT POETRY PRIZE WINNERS

First Prize: “Someday I'll Love Kay Shamblin” by Kay Shamblin (University of Louisville)
Second: “Murmurations” by Grace Sutphin (University of Louisville)
Third: “Harvest-Time” by Andrew Hutto (University of Louisville) 

HONORABLE MENTIONS

“Truth Seekers” by Elizabeth Pottinger (Asbury University)
“Not Quite Bituminous” by Grace Ann Rogers (University of Louisville)

Sarabande Books awards the Flo Gault Student Poetry Prize every year in memory of Flo Gault, and with generous support from the Gault family. The annual prize is open to all full-time Kentucky undergraduate students. Each year Sarabande Books celebrates all the honorees with a Pie Party and award one winner $500 and a limited-edition print run of letterpress broadsides for his or her poem.
