The IESL Program offers an evening course in Communication in English (CIE). This class meets for 15 weeks on Tuesday and Thursday, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. A 3-hour, non-academic credit class, Spring 2010 semester begins Tuesday night, January 7. Applications are available on this web site (below) or by calling the IESL office (852-5901).
What will be taught in CIE?
CIE is designed to help advanced proficiency non-native speakers of English become more effective communicators in academic, professional and social situations. Classroom activities are designed to give participants the opportunity to improve conversational fluency, an understanding of English vocabulary, and the acquisition of linguistic strategies needed in professional interactions such as discussions and presentations.
Because of the nature of the class, regular attendance is required. Student performance in the course is assessed at the end of the semester as satisfactory/unsatisfactory.
