 ENGLISH DEPARTMENT GRADUATE PROGRAM CALENDAR

January 5 (Mon.)  Deadline for Fall 2009 applicants to apply for Ph.D. admission and M.A. Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs)

January 7 (Wed.) Classes begin

January 12 (Mon.)  Last day to submit an M.A. thesis prospectus for a May degree. Prospectus must be approved at least three months prior to final oral examination. Submit a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee Appointment form (can be found here).

January 12 (Mon.)  Last day to declare intention to take Spring 2009 Doctoral Comprehensive Exam and to submit proposed schedule for taking SRA/SLA exams.(SLA/SRA proposals and reading lists, including committee members' names, are due at least one month prior to the proposed exam date. The ENTIRE committee must approve the proposal/reading list before it's submitted.) 

January 19 (Mon.)  Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday

January 23 (Fri.)  Last day to sign-up to take the Spring Language Proficiency Exam ($20.00 non-refundable cash fee DUE to Karen Habeeb.)

January 27 (Tues.)   Last day to apply for May 2009 degree (to graduate Spring term)

February 2 (Mon.)  Last day for May degree candidates to submit non-thesis option M.A. culminating project prospectus to Karen Habeeb. Prospectus must be approved by your project adviser BEFORE it is submitted.

February 19-21 (Thurs.- Sat.)  The Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture since 1900 (University of Louisville)

February 25 (Wed.)  Last day to withdraw from a class

February 27 (Fri.) Ph.D. Visitation Day

February 28 (Sat.)  Language proficiency exams: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Pre-registration required)

March 4 (Wed.)   Rhet/Comp Doctoral Examination

March 6-7 (Fri.-Sat.) Kentucky Philological Association (KPA) Conference                                (Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro, KY)

March 11-14 (Wed.-Sat.)  CCCC Convention (aka Four C’s Conference) (San Francisco, CA)

March 16-20 (Mon.-Fri.)  Spring Break Vacation

April 3 (Fri.)  Recommended last day for a thesis or dissertation Oral Defense for a May degree (submit Oral Examination Schedule  form at least two weeks prior to defense (can be found here).

April 10 (Fri.)  Last day for graduate students to submit defended theses or dissertations to the Graduate School (Houchens 105) for a May 2009 degree

April 20 (Mon.)  Completed M.A. culminating projects (approved by your advisor) due to Karen Habeeb

April 20 (Mon.)  Last day to submit an M.A. thesis prospectus for an August 2009 degree. Prospectus must be approved at least three months prior to the final oral examination. Submit a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee Appointment form (can be found here).

April 22 (Wed.) Last day of classes

April 23  (Thurs.)  Reading Day;  First-year Ph.D. students meet with the Graduate Committee

April 24-30 (Fri.-Thurs.)  Final exams

April-May(TBA) - M.A. Culminating project discussions with the Graduate Committee & your project advisor

May 9 (Sat.) - Spring 2009 Commencement
