ENGLISH DEPARTMENT GRADUATE PROGRAM CALENDAR
January 7 - Classes start and last day to register for Spring semester
January 11 - Last day to declare intention to take Spring 2008 Doctoral Comprehensive and to submit proposed schedule for taking SRA/SLA exams.(SLA/SRA proposals and reading lists, including committee members' names, are due at least one month prior to the proposed exam date. The ENTIRE committee must approve the proposal/reading list before it's submitted.)
January 11 - Last day to submit an M.A. thesis prospectus for a May degree. Prospectus must be approved at least three months prior to final oral examination. Submit a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee form.
January15 - Deadline for Fall 2008 applicants to apply for Ph.D. admission and M.A. Graduate Teaching Assistantships
January 18- Last day to sign-up to take the Spring Language Proficiency Exam ($20.00 non-refundable cash fee DUE to Kristopher Anderson)
January 21 - Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday
January 25 - Last day to apply for May 2007 degree
February 4 - Last day for May degree candidates to submit non-thesis option M.A.culminating project prospectus to Kristopher Anderson. Prospectus must be approved by your project adviser BEFORE it is submitted.
February 16 - Language proficiency exams: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Pre-registration required)
February 21-23 - The Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture since 1900 (University of Louisville)
February 25 - Last day to withdraw from a class
February 29 - PhD Visitation Day
March 5 - Rhet/Comp Doctoral Examination
March 7-8 - KPA Conference (University of Louisville)
March 10-16 - Spring Break Vacation
April 2-5 - Four C’s Conference (New Orleans, LA)
April 4 - Recommended last day for a thesis or dissertation Oral Defense for a May degree (submit Oral Examination Schedule form at least two weeks prior to defense)
April 11 - Last day for graduate students to submit defended theses or dissertations to the Graduate School (Houchens 105) for a May 2008 degree
April 17 - Raul Coronado, University of Chicago. Respondent: Gabriela Nuñez, University of Louisville. Title: TBA
April 21 - Completed M.A. culminating projects (approved by your adviser) due to Kristopher Anderson
April 21 - Last day to submit an M.A. thesis prospectus for an August degree. Prospectus must be approved at least three months prior to the final oral examination. Submit a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee form.
April 21 - Last day of classes
April 22 - First-year Ph.D. students meet with the Graduate Committee
April 24 - Graduate Program Luncheon (Noon, Humanities Room 300)
April 29 - Final exams
April-May(TBA) - M.A. Culminating project discussions with the Graduate Committee & your project adviser
May 1-4 - Narrative Conference (Austin, TX)
May 10 - May Commencement
