ENGLISH DEPARTMENT GRADUATE PROGRAM CALENDAR


January 5 (Sunday): Deadline for Fall 2014 applicants to apply for Ph.D. admission and M.A. Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs). Apply Now


January 6 (Monday): Classes begin; Last day of registration.

January 10 (Friday): Last day to submit an M.A. thesis prospectus for a May 2014 degree. Prospectus must be approved at least three months prior to final oral examination. Submit a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee Appointment form signed by your entire committee, along with your prospectus, to the Annelise.  See the Graduate Program Guidelines for more information on the prospectus.

January 10 (Friday): Last day to declare intention to take Spring 2014 Doctoral Comprehensive Exams and to submit proposed schedule for taking SRA/SLA exams.(SLA/SRA proposals and reading lists, including committee members' names, are due at least one month prior to the proposed exam date. The ENTIRE committee must approve the proposal/reading list before it's submitted.) Schedule Exams

January 10 (Friday): Last day to drop/add.

January 20 (Monday): Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday (No classes; offices closed.)

January 24 (Friday): Last day to sign-up to take the Spring Language Proficiency Exam. $25.00 non-refundable CASH fee due to Annelise by 4:00 PM. Must register in person.

January 30 (Thursday): Last day to apply for May 2014 degree.

January 31 (Friday): Last day for May degree candidates to submit M.A. culminating project prospectus to the Annelise. Prospectus must be approved by your project advisor by email or signature BEFORE it is submitted.  See the Graduate Program Guidelines for details on submitting the prospectus.

February 8 (Saturday): Language proficiency exams: 1:00-4:00PM (Pre-registration required)

February 14 (Friday) The General Rhetorical and Composition Exam. 10:00AM - 4:00PM, various carrels in Ekstrom Library, unless other room arrangements are requested or necessary. Exam day instructions and procedures will be e-mailed to participants Tuesday February 11.

February 20-22 (Thursday-Saturday)The Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture since 1900 (University of Louisville)

February 25 (Tuesday) Last day to withdraw from a class.

February 28 (Friday): Ph.D. Visitation/ Recruiting Day

March 9 (Sunday) Daylight Savings Time begins at 2 am. Set clocks 1 hour forward.

March 10-16 (Monday-Sunday) Spring Break Vacation (no classes; offices open)

March 17 - March 31 (Monday - Monday) Advising for Summer/Fall 2014.

March 19-22 (Wednesday-Saturday) CCCC Convention

April - M.A. Culminating project discussions with your project advisor and members of the Culminating Project Committee.  Once your project has been approved by your director, you will have a final discussion with your committee.  It is the student's responsibility to schedule a time for this with his or her faculty members and report the time to the Graduate Program Assistant in order to schedule a room.

April 1 (Tuesday): 10:30 am Registration for Summer 2014 and Fall 2014 opens. (You will NOT be able to register unless you have been advised by Dr. Karen Kopelson and your advising hold has been cleared by Annelise)


April 11 (Friday) Completed M.A. culminating projects (approved by your advisor) due to the Annelise . Please submit a digital copy. Hard copy optional.


April 16 (Wednesday) Recommended last day for a thesis or dissertation Oral Defense for a May degree, submit Oral Examination Schedule form to the Annelise at least three weeks prior to defense.

April 21 (Monday) Last day of classes

April 21 (Monday) Incomplete lapse date for Fall 2013 courses.
April 22 (Tuesday) Last day Annelise can guarantee a room reservation for a culminating project discussion.

April 22 (Tuesday) Reading Day:
First-year Ph.D. students meet with the Graduate Committee - 11:30 AM in Ekstrom W210
2nd year Ph.D. students meet with the Comprehensive Exams Committee. 1:00 PM in Ekstrom W210

April 23- April 29 (Wednesday-Tuesday)Final exams
April 25 (Friday) Graduate Program Luncheon: 12:00PM - 1:00 PM in HM 300

April 25 (Friday) Last day for graduate students to submit defended theses or dissertations to the Graduate School (Houchens 105) for a May 2014 degree. Note: you MUST contact Courtney Kerr (502-852-6495) to schedule a review of your paper BEFORE this deadline.

May 2 (Friday)Last day to submit an M.A. thesis prospectus for an August 2014 degree. Prospectus must be approved at least three months prior to the final oral examination. Submit a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee Appointment form (contact the Graduate Program Assistant for the form).  See the Graduate Program Guidelines for more prospectus information.
