January 5 (Sun.) Deadline for Fall 2014 applicants to apply for Ph.D. admission and M.A. Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) . For more information on applying to our programs, see :
January 6 (Mon.) Classes begin; Last day of Registration.
January 10 (Fri.) Last day to submit an M.A. thesis prospectus for a May 2014 degree. Prospectus must be approved at least three months prior to final oral examination. Submit a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee Appointment form signed by your entire committee, along with your prospectus, to the Graduate Program Assistant (englgrad@louisville.edu). (Please submit a digital copy and a hardcopy.) See the Graduate Program Guidelines for more information on the prospectus.
January 10 (Fri.) Last day to declare intention to take Spring 2014 Doctoral Comprehensive Exams and to submit proposed schedule for taking SRA/SLA exams.(SLA/SRA proposals and reading lists, including committee members' names, are due at least one month prior to the proposed exam date. The ENTIRE committee must approve the proposal/reading list before it's submitted.) (if necessary)

January 20 (Mon.) Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday (No classes; offices closed.)
January 24 (Fri.) Last day to sign-up to take the Spring Language Proficiency Exam ($25.00 non-refundable CASH fee due to Graduate Program Assistant.) (You may put in envelope in locked dropbox outside office with your name and language choice written on it. The GPA will send you a receipt by email. Sample exams are available upon request.)
January 30 (Thurs.) Last day to apply for May 2014 degree (to graduate Spring term) (Do this via ULink)
January 31 (Fri.) Last day for May degree candidates to submit non-thesis option M.A. culminating project prospectus to the Graduate Program Assistant. Prospectus must be approved by your project advisor by email or signature BEFORE it is submitted. (Please submit a digital copy by email AND a paper copy.) (see the Graduate Program Guidelines for details on submitting the prospectus)

3rd week of March Graduate Advising for Summer and Fall 2014 begins after Spring Break has concluded. Contact the Graduate Program Assistant (852-0505;englgrad@louisville.edu) to set up an advising appointment with Dr. Kopelson. Registration will open in early April. You will need to schedule an in-person or phone advising appointment OR send Dr. Kopelson (karen.kopelson@louisville.edu) an email outlining your course plans briefly for Summer and Fall 2014.

first week of April (schedule TBD) 10:30 am Registration for Summer 2014 and Fall 2014 opens. (You will NOT be able to register unless you have been advised by Dr. Karen Kopelson and your advising hold has been cleared by the Graduate Program Assistant.) April 11 (Fri.) Completed M.A. culminating projects (approved by your advisor) due to the Graduate Program Assistant. Please submit a digital copy by email AND a paper copy by mail or in person.
April 16 (Wed.) Recommended last day for a thesis or dissertation Oral Defense for a May degree (submit Oral Examination Schedule form to the Graduate Program Assistant at least two weeks prior to defense. (see graduate.louisville.edu)
April 21 (Mon.) Last day of classes

April 22 (Tues.) Reading Day; First-year Ph.D. students meet with the Graduate Committee; 2nd year Ph.D. students meet with the Comprehensive Exams Committee.
April 23- April 29 (Wed.-Tues.) Final exams
April 25 (Fri.) Last day for graduate students to submit defended theses or dissertations to the Graduate School (Houchens 105) for a May 2014 degree. Note: you MUST contact Courtney Kerr at clkerr01@louisville.edu or 502-852-6495 to schedule a review of your paper BEFORE this deadline.
April-May (TBA) - M.A. Culminating project discussions with your project advisor and members of the Culminating Project Committee. Once your project has been approved by your director, you will have a final discussion with your committee. It is the student's responsibility to schedule a time for this with his or her faculty members and report the time to the Graduate Program Assistant in order to schedule a room.
May 2 (Fri.) Last day to submit an M.A. thesis prospectus for an August 2014 degree. Prospectus must be approved at least three months prior to the final oral examination. Submit a Thesis/Dissertation Advisory Committee Appointment form (contact the Graduate Program Assistant for the form). See the Graduate Program Guidelines for more prospectus information.
