I love to write and to teach writing. My writing has ranged from journalism, to fiction, to academic books and articles, to creative nonfiction. I have taught a wide variety of writing courses, in the U.S. and abroad, to students from their first year of college to students working on their graduate degrees. What matters to me most as a writing teacher is helping students understand more thoughtfully their own ways of writing and how those connect with the writing situations they find themselves in. I want them to be able to figure out how best to succeed at new and unfamiliar writing situations whether in a college classroom or outside in their daily lives. My specific research and teaching interests are in literacy, popular culture, identity, and creative nonfiction.
