The Composition Program at the University of Louisville regards writing as an essential tool of intellectual inquiry. We want to help students develop their writing as a way of thinking, learning, and communication that will enrich their lives in the University community and beyond. Our courses teach students to think critically and creatively about the writing they produce and the texts they read. It is important in college and in life to develop the abilities to read the work of others, interpret and evaluate the ideas in that work, and find clear and engaging ways of writing about your ideas inspired by that work. We want students to develop writing and reading processes that help them connect thoughtful reading and thoughtful writing in any context—academic, professional, and personal.
