"Textbook Cases: Writing Textbooks and the Profession of Rhetoric and Composition."

Presented By: Joe Harris, Bronwyn Williams, and Bruce Horner

Please join us for a panel discussion on textbook composing and publication. The panelists will share their recent experiences writing textbooks for composition classes.  Joseph Harris is the author of Rewriting:  How to Do Things with Texts (2006).  Bronwyn Williams is the co-author of From Concept to Completion: Writing Well in the Social Sciences (1997) and Serious Fun: Reading and Writing Popular Culture (in process).  Bruce Horner is the co-author, with Min-Zhan Lu, of Writing Conventions (2008). 

Joe Harris is the director of the University Writing Program at Duke University and serves as editor of CCCC Studies in Writing and Rhetoric. He is the author of A Teaching Subject:  Composition Since 1966 and has served as editor of CCC. His articles have appeared in the premier journals of the field, including CCC, JAC, and College English.

Bronwyn Williams serves as Director of Composition at the University of Louisville.  He is the author of Popular Culture and Representations of Literacy (with Amy Zenger) and Tuned In: Television and the Teaching of Writing and is the editor of Identity Papers: Literacy and Power in Higher Education.  His recent publications include a series of articles for the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy.

Bruce Horner is the Endowed Chair in Rhetoric and Composition at the University of Louisville.  His publications include the books Terms of Work for Composition: A Materialist Critique, Representing the “Other”: Basic Writers and the Teaching of Basic Writing (with Min-Zhan Lu) and the edited collection Key Terms in Popular Music and Culture (with Thomas Swiss).
