Held October 14, 2010 through October 16, 2010, the University of Louisville department of English is proud to present the 2010 Watson Conference. The 2010 Conference theme is Working English in Rhetoric and Composition: Global-Local Contexts, Commitments, & Consequences.
The 2010 Watson Conference will explore the multiple meanings of the term work and English arising out of global-local exchanges (linguistic, economic, cultural, as well as geopolitical). We address questions such as: How might we work English (that is, employ, construct, and redesign it) in the process of learning and using it? How might rhetoric and composition disrupt binaries such as langue/parole, global/local, native/foreign, standard/dialect, spoken/written, official/vernacular, private/public, and functional/critical literacy?
