Lync Online for PC

Students now have access to Lync Online which offers enhanced instant messaging with features such as Group Meetings, Desktop Sharing, GoToMeeting and Activity Feeds. This document gives you instructions on how to get started.


  1. Open Cardmail at and click Settings.
  2. Click Office 365 settings.
  3. Click software.
  4. Before proceeding with the next step you will need to find if your computer is 32- or 64- bit.
  5. To find out whether your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit, begin by clicking on the Start button.
  6. Right click on Computer.
  7. Click on Properties.
  8. Take note of your System type
  9. Click on your computer version
  10. Click Install.
  11. Click Run.
  12. Click on the Lync icon in your taskbar.
  13. Click Install when you are ready.
  14. Click Close.

Lync User Instructions

  1. Enter your Cardmail address
  2. Enter your Ulink Password
  3. Click Save my Password.
  4. Click Sign In.
  5. Your availability is set based on your activity or Cardmail calendar.
  6. You can manually change your availability at any time.
  7. You can choose Show Menu Bar to see the Menu Bar at all times, or use the drop-down menu as shown here.
  8. Clicking on the Contact icon will display all your contacts.
  9. Clicking on the Activity Feeds icon displays your contacts’ Out of Office messages, personal notes, etc.
  10. Clicking on Conversations displays your conversation history
  11. The Find a contact field searches the directory for a contact. You can IM a contact directly from the search or add them to the Contact List.
  12. Manually enter the email address for any exchange users you need to include in your list. The email address must end with

  14. A user’s availability is denoted by text and color:
  15. To contact someone, you may select your communication option: a. Email b. IM c. Lync Call d. Video Call, Desktop Sharing and GoToMeeting
