Noyce Teaching Scholars
U of L’s Early Start Noyce Teaching Scholar’s program is seeking junior or senior students who are pursuing a major in math or science and are considering the teaching profession. This prestigious program, funded by the National Science Foundation, awards a MINIMUM of $10,000 per year in forgivable loans to individuals who are willing to teach for two years for every year of scholarship they receive. Noyce Scholarships above the $10,000 minimum are available to replace non forgivable loans in aid packages up to the full cost of attending U of L with in state tuition. This means that a Early Start Noyce scholar will not accrue any additional debt as long as he/she successfully completes the Early Start program and meets a teaching obligation of two years for every year of scholarship.
U of L's Noyce program is also seeking professionals with math, science or engineering degrees who wish to become teachers. The program will fund one year of full time study for a Masters in the Art of Teaching in the form of a forgivable loan upon completion of two years of teaching.
Through a partnership with JCPS, Noyce Scholars are guaranteed a job in a school that will enable them to meet all of their scholarship requirements when they successfully complete their program of study. Finally, through a partnership with Teach Kentucky, Noyce Scholars who do teach in JCPS will participate in support programs including workshops, mentors and community immersion activities that support and encourage teachers to remain in the profession.
