Graduate Fellowships

This page is dedicated to providing fellowship information to prospective and current CEHD students.

University Fellowships

  • competitive and limited
  • full-time doctoral status required
  • restricted to new or first-year students
  • no work assignment involved
  • stipend of $15,000 and tuition remission
  • apply by expressing interest to a faculty member by February 1
  • nomination from doctoral faculty advisor to the CEHD Honors and Scholarship Committee.
  • only top two or three students will be nominated and submitted to the Graduate School for final selection

Scottish Rite Foundation in Kentucky Fellowships (approximately 15 per year)

  • no work assignment involved
  • tuition remission (full-time or part-time)
  • Kentucky resident
  • admission to Ed.D. in educational administration (P-12 concentration preferred)
  • applications are distributed to eligible applicants in late March - early April)

John Dewey Fellowship Program (for doctoral students interested in careers in higher education)

  • admission to the Doctor of Education degree program
  • employment as full-time graduate assistant in the College of Education and Human Development
  • interest in a career as a professor in higher education
  • evidence of prior strong academic accomplishments and outstanding professional promise
  • fellowships are solicited annually and they are renewable for up to three years
  • nationally competitive stipends. Dewey Fellows have the opportunity to work closely with leaders in their field through a variety of research and teaching activities.

Samuels Family Scholarship program (for doctoral students interested in pursuing careers related to or in P-12 schools)

  • admission to the Doctor of Education degree program
  • employment as a full-time graduate assistant in the College of Education and Human Development
  • interest in pursuing a career in P-12 education
  • evidence of prior strong academic accomplishments and outstanding professional promise
  • scholarships are solicited annually and renewable for up to three years
  • made possible through the generosity of Bill Samuels Jr., President of Makers Mark Distillery. Samuels Scholars have the opportunity to work closely with leaders in their field through a variety of research and teaching activities.

Grawemeyer Fellowship (for doctoral students in education)

  • admission to the Doctor of Education degree program
  • for full consideration, candidates must apply by January 15
  • made possible through the generosity of H. Charles Grawemeyer, an industrialist, entrepreneur, philanthropist and U of L alumni who created the prestigious Grawemeyer Awards, given annually for outstanding ideas in education, music composition,improving world order, religion and psychology
