Teaching & Learning Master's Degrees

The Department of Teaching & Learning offers graduate programs for those seeking their initial certification as well as advance programs for practicing teachers.

Initial Teacher Certification

Applicants who are seeking to become a teacher and want obtain their initial (first) teaching certificate can participate in our initial certification programs at the graduate level. Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs offered through the Department of Teaching & Learning provide candidates the opportunity to simultaneously qualify for their first (initial) teaching certificate and a graduate degree. Our College offers an array of MAT programs, from early childhood education through secondary education and special education. MAT programs take from 18 months to 3 years, depending on full-time or part-time status and pre-requisites that may be required. Our college offers monthly Information Sessions for those interested in the MAT program. Registration is required for these free sessions.

Advanced Programs & Programs for Certified Teachers

For those practicing in the field, the Department of Teaching & Learning offers advanced programs in the areas of early elementary, middle school, secondary, special education, reading, and instructional technology education. Master of Education (MEd) programs provide candidates the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and skills pertaining to their area of certification. Some programs can integrate additional certification course work in order to obtain additional certification. All advanced programs qualify candidates for Rank change, if applicable. All prospective candidates must hold a valid teaching certificate, competitive Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores, an undergraduate degree, and two letters of recommendation.
