Academic Actions
(See Undergraduate Catalog for detailed policies and procedures)
Academic Warning Policy
Students whose cumulative grade point average (based on the completion of a minimum of twelve degree applicable credits at the University of Louisville) falls below 2.25 will be placed on Academic Warning for one semester. Students are encouraged to meet with an academic counselor, or assigned faculty advisor, to develop an academic remediation plan.
Academic Probation Policy
Students whose cumulative grade point average remains below 2.25 for two consecutive semesters will be placed on Academic Probation. Students will be limited to enroll in no more than 14 credit hours and must meet with an academic counselor. Students on academic probation will not be able to register for courses for the next semester until they meet with an academic counselor.
Students on academic probation must meet one of the following criteria to continue as a student in the College of Education and Human Development:
- Earn a semester grade point average of 2.50 or above
- Earn an overall grade point average (based on UofL gpa only) of 2.25 or above
Academic Suspension Policy
Students who do not meet one of the requirements above to continue on academic probation will be suspended from the College of Education and Human Development, which means they are also suspended from the University of Louisville. Suspended students are not allowed to enroll in classes for one semester (excluding summer terms) and must re-apply for admission to the College of Education and Human Development. Admission is not guaranteed and students should seriously consider their academic goals in development of their petition.
Students may consider a change of major, and should contact the appropriate unit’s advising center for more information if they meet the minimum admission requirements for that unit.
Academic Dismissal Policy
Students who are suspended the third time from the College of Education and Human Development are academically dismissed and are required to remain out of school for one full year. Students dismissed from the College of Education and Human Development are encouraged to meet with a career counselor to discuss other options since admission after dismissal is rare.
