The Office of Educator Development and Clinical Practice (OEDCP) is housed in the Raphael O. Nystrand Center of Excellence in Education in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). The OEDCP Placement Office at UofL serves as the organizational hub for communication and data collection related to field and clinical placements.
The OEDCP places candidates in field and clinical placement sites that are aligned with the College's mission statement and Conceptual Framework, Ideas to Action. The Conceptual Framework is grounded in the notion that candidates become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and leaders through Inquiry, Action and Advocacy--all active qualities that require significant field and clinical experiences.
According to National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education guidelines, the OEDCP arranges field and clinical placements only with established partnership sites.
Field Experiences Requirements Prior to Student Teaching in Spring 2014. State Regulation 16 KAR 5:040 governs admission, placement, and supervision in student teaching and stipulates that all candidates enrolled in student teaching after September 1, 2013 shall complete a minimum of 200 hours of diverse and focused field experiences prior to student teaching. The CEHD's Honors and Scholarship Committee offers a $2,000 Student Teaching Scholarship for each of the 14 school districts in the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative (OVEC).
Student Teacher Candidates who are interested in applying should complete the OVEC Student Teaching Scholarship Application [PDF]. Students must also indicate on the Information Sheet which OVEC districts they would like to complete their student teaching.
Scholarships are competitive and will be awarded based on candidate application and district need. Only candidates awarded the scholarship can be guaranteed a student teaching placement in that district.
