M.Ed. Literacy Specialist endorsement

Would you like to be able to help struggling readers achieve and plan for literacy achievement school-wide? The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Literacy with Literacy Specialist P-12 Endorsement may be just what you are looking for to enhance your career!

The program is designed for certified teachers who plan to seek a master's degree. The M.Ed. in Literacy with Literacy SpecialistP-12 Endorsement was designed in collaboration with P-12 classroom teachers, district specialists, and university faculty for preparing reading specialists/literacy coaches. The program leads to a Kentucky "Literacy Specialist P-12" endorsement.

  • Prepares candidates to be a reading specialist (work with students who are struggling readers) as well as a literacy coach (work with adults to advance literacy school-wide)

Classroom Reading Endorsement P-12 (Now Online)

This endorsement is designed for teachers who would like to be better equipped to teach reading in their own classrooms. It may be completed as part of the Master of Education in Teacher Leadership, the Master of Education in Literacy, a Rank I program, or as a stand alone endorsement.

The program for this endorsement consists of 6 courses (2 in the fall semester, 2 in the spring semester and the final 2 courses in the summer session). Courses are offered 100% Online.

These courses include:

  • Advanced Reading Methods
  • Literacy Research and Theory
  • Language Knowledge and Acquisition
  • Literacy Assessment
  • Summer Reading Practicum Experience
  • Literacy Learning and Cultural Difference.

M.Ed. Teacher Leader with Classroom Reading Endorsement P-12

The MEd program is designed for certified teachers who plan to seek a master’s degree. The program was designed in collaboration with P-12 classroom teachers, district specialists, and university faculty and school administrators for preparing teacher leaders. The program can lead to an endorsement for Teacher Leadership.

Rank 1 with M.Ed. Literacy Specialist

Rank I programs are planned graduate level programs designed for Kentucky teachers seeking rank change for salary purposes. Rank I programs are not degree programs. They are recognized only in the state of Kentucky. By state regulation, Rank I status is sixty (60) semester hours of approved graduate credit including a Master's degree. A Rank 1 program can be designed to include either of the endorsements to meet your unique professional needs.

Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a Literacy Emphasis

The doctoral program in curriculum and instruction prepares educators for various roles in college and universities; in educational research and leadership positions, public school districts and other educational institutions. Students may choose to specialize in a specific discipline such as literacy education.
