CEHD Awards
Students receiving a degree in August 2005, December 2005 and May 2006 can be nominated. The students will receive their awards at the honors reception in May.
HPES Department Awards:
- Omicron Delta Kappa Award
The ODK Award was established to recognize the outstanding graduating senior from each academic unit who demonstrates leadership, scholarship, commitment, and service to U of L. ODK emphasizes 5 areas of student involvement: scholarship, athletics, student government/student organizations, the arts, and publications/speeches. The award has been given at U of L for over forty years. Please include a rationale with your nomination as the H & S Committee will review nominations for each undergraduate degree granting department and select one student to recommend to the Dean as the CEHD nominee. - Outstanding Senior in Education for Service and Leadership
This award is given to "an outstanding senior" in each of the undergraduate degree granting departments in the CEHD. Each department selects one recipient. - The John Heldman Academic Achievement Award in Health Promotion, Physical Education and Sport Studies (no description available).
- The Clark F. Wood Award
This award is given to an outstanding graduate student in the HPES Department whose personal characteristics and scholarship give promise of constructive leadership. - Sherrill E. Brakmeier Award
This award is given to an outstanding senior in the HPES Department who has made significant contributions to the area of service to the university, community, and profession. - Joseph R. Trabue Award
This award is given to an outstanding senior in the HPES Department whose personal characteristics and scholarship give promise of constructive leadership. - Ellis J. Mendleson Award
This award is given to an outstanding senior in the HPES Department who has made significant contributions to the area of service to the university, community, and profession. - Sue Hall Award
This award is given to an outstanding student teacher in the field of Health or Physical Education. - Outstanding Student for May Graduation
The nominee should exemplify the attributes your department deems most desirable, which include, but are limited to character, leadership, service, and scholarship. The CEHD H & S Committee will select one student and recommend to the Dean that the student’s name be sent forward to represent the CEHD. The student selected will be featured in the commencement program and will lead our students into Freedom Hall for the University-Wide Commencement. One of the university nominated students will be the Student Commencement Speaker. Please include a rationale for selecting your nominee. The nominee must plan to participate in the University-Wide Commencement ceremony. - Distinguished Service to Education Award
This award is presented to an individual, institution or agency that has made an outstanding contribution to education at the local, state or national level. The award is not usually given every year and is considered to be a very prestigious award from the CEHD.
ELFH and Workforce Leadership/Human Resource Education Program
Graduate
- R. Wayne Pace Award in Human Resource Education
Named after the founding president of the Academy of Human Resource Development, this award recognizes the outstanding graduate student in Human Resource Education who exemplifies the Academy’s mission of leading the field through research-based practice. -
Human Resource Education Community Engagement Award
Recognizes the Human Resource Education graduate student who most exemplifies the ideals of using human resource development practices to better our communities and society.

Malcom S. Knowles Award in Workforce Leadership
Named after the renowned adult educator who developed widely used theoretical ideas for adult learning, this award recognizes the outstanding adult learner in the Workforce Leadership undergraduate program. The winner of the award is one who excels both academically and professionally by successfully integrating prior learning into the program. -
Professional Collegiality Award in Workforce Leadership
This award recognizes the Workforce Leadership undergraduate student who helps to build within the program a community of scholars by serving as a mentor or helper to others in the program. -
Workforce Leadership Community Engagement Award
The Workforce Leadership undergraduate program is designed to serve the needs of our community. This award recognizes the student who exemplifies the program’s goals by serving the community while completing the program. -
Outstanding Military Learner in Workforce Leadership
Due to the Workforce Leadership program’s strong emphasis on serving veterans and members of the armed forces, one outstanding military learner is recognized each year who substantially demonstrates ethics, leadership, professional competence, and academic proficiency. -
Resilience Award in Workforce Leadership
This award recognizes a Workforce Leadership undergraduate student who has overcome significant barriers or obstacles to achieve academic success.
