Summer Enrichment Camp

You've Got the Write One

"You’ve Got the Write One" as an interdisciplinary summer enrichment program. The camp teaching staff is comprised of practicing teachers and pre-service teachers enrolled at the University of Louisville. In order to prepare the teaching staff to work within an integrated environment, a team of teacher leaders meets for two months prior to the camp to develop activities that will introduce participants to the camp theme, content and expectations.

SPI LogoThree days prior to the camp the teaching staff meet to participate in activities designed by the leaders and to develop specific curriculum for their classes. During the one-week camp, students entering grades four through eight work with their teaching team to explore topics and enrichment-based learning activities centered on the camp’s theme. The 2017 theme is "Mysteries Around Us." Students will also participate in other learning activities around the UofL campus, as well as enjoy snacks and recreation with other students. At the end of the week, students showcase their work for parents and other interested adults at an open house. This year's camp will be held July 17-21, 9am-2:45pm, in the Porter Building of the University of Louisville's Belknap Campus.

The first Summer Enrichment Camp (previously known as the Summer Portfolio Institute) was held in 1995 and has continued to grow with each passing year. The Summer Enrichment Camp is currently under the direction of Dr. Caroline Sheffield in the Department of Middle and Secondary Education.
