Biography

I have been at University of Louisville since 2002. Moving to Louisville without any local family or friends was exciting and I was welcomed by CEHD faculty with open arms. During my tenure at UofL, I have been able to work with students and teachers in many of our district schools. My “home school” is UofL’s Signature Partnership Initiative (SPI) JCPS Cochran Elementary which is located in Old Louisville. Since 2013, Cochran Elementary has warmly welcomed UofL students and me to work closely with their students within several settings (e.g., individual classrooms, after-school science program, professional development, plays, field trips, and fundraising events). Within all of these unique experiences, I have collaborated with Cochran faculty and staff to effectively teach science so that all students feel confident and competent in learning.

After strategically waiting 45 years for the “right one,” I met my husband in a CEHD meeting. We reside in southern Indiana with our two dogs. I have two step children (one at UofL and one soon to be at UofL). My hobbies include jogging, biking, hiking, traveling, shelling and watching sports, in particular baseball because my husband was a previous college pitcher. You may very well find me at a 1980’s music concert because my interest in new music officially stopped in 1989.

Professionally, I am a very passionate about science learning. I believe that every child should have multiple experiences in elementary, middle and high school classrooms to explore scientific phenomena in robust ways that ensures they develop a strong scientific literacy. At UofL, I teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to science teaching as well as overseeing the administrative structures as Early Childhood and Elementary Education Assistant Department Chair and Program Director. The focus of my professional writing has been implementation of methods for all students to learn science in formal and informal settings.
