My professional career began as a social studies teacher in a chaotic era for this country, resulting in much confusion among youth who observed news clips of war – and violent objections to that action – while trying to make sense of what was happening around them. After obtaining my undergraduate credentials I began teaching middle school classes in US and Kentucky history, quickly learning that teaching involves much more intricacy than I ever imagined. I learned that thorough knowledge of content and all related expectations, as well as application of human growth and development theories in the classroom actually could lead to impactful relationships with the students. After two years, I began teaching high school, and was assigned to teach across all social studies content areas. When I decided to become an administrator, I was introduced to other problem-solving experiences, and a view of students from another perspective. After retiring from public schoola, I taught in two state universities. One component of this current phase of my professional career came when I joined the faculty of UofL to be near my daughter and her family. I have founded new friendships, and established many working relationships with public, private and parochial faculty members of school districts over the past 10 years of service as regional coordinator for the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program at the University of Louisville. I am a voracious reader, antiquing is a siren lure, decorating is a passion, and planning travel time to places I have long read about frequently consumes my thoughts.
