Ann Larson is the Acting Associate Dean for Assessment and Accountability and Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning. She began her career at U of L in 1996 while continuing her work on a Ph.D., which she received in 1998, in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois-Urbana.
Ann's research areas are professional development schools, teacher education, teacher development and English education. She was recently a Co-PI of a Title II, NCLB federal/state literacy grant ($254,000) for teacher professional development related to urban middle school student achievement, and closing the achievement gap in literacy.
She has served on numerous boards and committees including the Jefferson County Public Schools Teacher Magnet Career Academy, Greater Louisville Inc., Every1 Reads Task Force and Education Committee member, committees of the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) and has worked extensively with student teaching candidates and the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP). Ann serves as a consultant for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification for classroom teachers in Kentucky, as an Advisory Board member of the College of Education and Human Developmentās Minority Teaching Recruitment Project, and has been appointed to the U of L Commission on the Status of Women. For three years, Ann served as a program director in the Department of Teaching and Learning for the Ph.D. program.
Ann was twice nominated by students as a U of L Faculty Favorite and Exemplary Advising Nominee. She currently serves on the Department of Teaching and Learning's middle and secondary program committee, co-coordinates the college's NCATE accreditation with Dr. Cheryl Kolander, and co-leads faculty facilitators in college-wide self study and educator preparation committee work.
