Dr. Mercer's research interests include qualitative methods, particularly in the area of psychoeducational group work with survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Dr. Mercer is a founding member of the Louisville Clothesline Project, an organization founded in 1991 to offer women who have experienced abuse, an opportunity to express their feelings about the abuse in a unique way, through creating a message on a t-shirt with other survivors in a safe, supportive environment. Dr. Mercer is an active member of the Research and Evaluation Committee and the Institute and Curriculum Committee of Health Promotion Schools of Excellence serving on the Cardiovascular Subcommittee to plan and implement the Institute. Dr. Mercer supports the Every1Reads Initiative by tutoring one day each week at Medora Elementary and promoting participation in the Every1Reads Initiative in HPES 531/631 Leadership Skills in Health Promotion.
