To fulfill our urban research university mission, we strive to be the top program in the country that integrates research, theory, and practice in the most meaningful way possible.

We have committed as a faculty to a common research agenda that will meet the needs of the field in two key areas:

  • Workforce Education and Development

Future-focused Human Resources and Organization Development

Our HROD research agenda is focused on moving organizations and employees to realize dynamic futures through enhancing performance possibilities, building positive human experiences of work, and facilitating organization culture.

Workforce Education and Development: College and Career Readiness

We are known internationally through the work of the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education (NRCCTE), the leading provider of research, professional development, and state assistance to improve the design and delivery of career and technical education in high schools, technical centers, and community and technical colleges.

Our research in workforce education and development strives to provide evidence leading to preparing students who are College and Career Ready in three content areas:

  • Academic Skills and Knowledge - occupational and technical expression of academic learning
  • Employability Skills and Knowledge - occupational skills that are needed in all workplaces
  • Technical Skills and Knowledge - job skills that are unique to specific career pathways
