  • MA, Community Counseling, James Madison University, 2007
  • BA, Psychology, Loyola University of New Orleans, 2000

Research Interests

1. Adolescent aggression and adolescent development

  • Research focused on moral development as a protective factor for youth in violent communities.
  • Theoretical and anecdotal research focused on reframing life’s trials and tribulations through Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey. Specifically as it relates to the heroic journey of adolescence.
  • Research focused on effective intervention strategies for counseling aggressive adolescents. Research currently is being done on a multi-systemic aggression group and other lines of scholarship are in development.

2. Effective training of counseling students

  • Research on the benefits of a master’s doctoral research collaboration. Two years leading the group has led to multiple publications, multiple presentations, and a CACREP grant. The model has been presented at national and regional conferences and an article has been submitted to the Journal of Counseling Education and Supervision on effective implementation of the group. The model is currently in its third year.
  • Research on a model developed to maximize training opportunities, address the research to practice gap, and improve retention in counseling education programs. After coordinating and implementing the model in the 2009-2010 school year faculty and student feedback is gathered to inform a new model to be published within the year.
