Program Summary

The 100 percent Online Masters Program in Human Resource Education educates professionals who focus on training and workplace performance problem solving. Through the program, you can develop skills by exploring cutting-edge concepts and designing hands-on projects related to:

• Organization Development
• Human Resource Management

The HRE Program is Relevant, Rigorous, and Conceptually Sound.

• Relevant.  The program has a strong emphasis on hands-on, applied projects that provide direct application to the field. Our instructors have practitioner experience in the field and many currently work in HR-related positions in Louisville and around the country.
• Rigorous.  Expect to work hard and complete challenging assignments. Our goal is to help you develop the skills to think unconventionally about conventional problems.
• Conceptually Sound.  The program is designed around research-based competencies from the American Society for Training and Development, International Society for Performance Improvement, and the Society for Human Resource Management. Faculty members have strong theoretical and conceptual backgrounds that guide both their teaching and their practical approach to the field.

Our graduates gain skills to identify and "bridge the gap" between potential and actual performance in corporations, educational institutions, government agencies, healthcare organizations, the military, non-profit organizations, and community-based groups. Competencies are developed through the program goals of Investigating the Gap, Producing Interventions, Implementing Change, Evaluating Outcomes, and Managing and Leading. Those competencies are integrated through a final Capstone Experience.

Tuition/Fees & Financial Aid

These amounts include all tuition and fees, excluding books. Subject to change by the Board of Trustees.

Financial aid is available in the form of:

• Scholarships (full-time students)
• Student Loans (available if taking more than 4.5 credit hours per semester, 3 hours in summer). Please visit the Student Finanacial Aid website for additional information.
• Payment Plans. Click on the "Financial Settlement Options" for your semester to learn more about University of Louisville tuition payment plans.
• Tuition Reimbursement Payment Plan. Click on the "Financial Settlement Options" for your semester to learn more about tuition deferment for students whose employers will reimburse tuition after the semester is over.

Admission Requirements

New students can begin courses at multiple points in the year. All application materials should be submitted by the following dates:

• Begin courses in August, complete application by July 31.
• Begin courses in January, complete application by December 1.
• Begin courses in May or June, complete application by April 15.

Please note: If you cannot complete the application by the above dates, contact the HRE Program Representative to determine whether you can be considered for admission.

The HRE Admissions Committee requires the following materials:

• Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work. Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75.
• GRE score of at least 800 (verbal + quantitative)
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score for international students from countries where English is not the native language. Students holding a baccalaureate or advanced degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. are exempt from this requirement.

Provisional admission can be granted without GRE scores, with evidence of an overall 2.75 GPA or higher. GRE scores must be provided before starting the second semester of coursework.

Courses/Schedule

The program may be taken entirely or partially online. Students are not required to visit Louisville at any time during the program. Online courses may require a time each week when students participate in live synchronous online class sessions. Most students with full-time jobs complete the program in 2-3 years; however, you can take up to six years.
