BS in Health and Human Performance (Physical Education, Teacher Preparation)

The Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Physical Education with Teacher Preparation degree consists of a 30-credit-hour core, with an additional concentrations in physical education and health promotion.

The core provides students with a background in the social, physiological and historical knowledge needed for specialized study in health and physical education. The concentration enables students to develop the professional knowledge, skills and dispositions to be effective professionals in teaching and related fields. Extensive school-based fieldwork experiences are integrated into the curriculum.

The goal of the degree program is to assist students in acquiring the skills, knowledge and dispositions to become effective and committed health and physical education teachers.

Students who complete this program may become certified to teach after completing Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT).

Opportunities for Graduates

Students who graduate from the BS in HHP with a concentration in Physical Education with Teacher Preparation enter the MAT to complete their teacher certification in K-12 Health and Physical Education.

Students who choose not to enroll in the MAT frequently assume careers with youth sport organizations, and sport and fitness agencies such as YMCAs, or become high school or college coaches

Certification

The BS degree in Health and Human Performance helps provide students with the prerequisite knowledge, skills and dispositions to enter the teacher education program (K-12 certification in health and physical education) in the MAT in Physical Education which is accredited by KDE, NCATE and AAHE.
