The Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Physical Education
(Non-Teacher Certification) degree consists of a 30-credit-hour core, with an additional concentration in physical education.
The core provides students with a social, physiological and historical knowledge base for specialized study in health and physical education. The concentration enables students to develop the professional knowledge, skills and dispositions to be effective professionals in teaching and related fields, such as youth sports programs, and coaching.
Extensive fieldwork is provided in settings such as schools, youth sport leagues, fitness centers and pre-schools. Students who complete this concentration frequently select electives in other departmental concentrations, such as exercise science, health promotion or sport administration.
The program integrates knowledge of sports skills, health and fitness with effective teaching skills, enabling students to succeed in a variety of settings (coaching, fitness organizations, youth leagues, etc.). It emphasizes practical experiences (fieldwork), breadth of health and fitness knowledge and development of teaching skills.
