BS in Early Elementary Education (Science)
The College of Education and Human Development prepares future teachers who are committed to helping every student learn. Our teacher education program emphasizes meeting the needs of the individual learner through understanding and using the best practices in a standards-based environment. Through classwork and clinical field experiences U of L teacher education students will become critical thinkers who are prepared to meet the demands of 21 st century schools.
The Bachelor of Science in Early Elementary Education offers undergraduates options for obtaining grades P-5 certification in combination with concentrations in nine specific teaching areas. This unique option prepares undergraduates to enter the teaching profession as teachers of primary and intermediate age students.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the professional program occurs once per year - every
fall. The admission deadline is typically February 1st for fall
admission.
Minimum of 45 semester credit hours required for admission to the professional program
Minimum 2.75 overall grade point average (suggested)
Successful completion of EDTP 201, EDTP 107, Math 151, and MATH 152 with a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher
ACT minimum composite Score of 21 (suggested)
"C" or better in English 102 and Speech Communication course
Gaining insightful experience and networking is important. As a part of the application process you will need three (3) letters of recommendation: one from a university/college faculty member, one concerning your work in the community (for example: employer, church, organizations, etc.), and one that describes your ability to work with children.
Admission to the teacher education program is competitive. The admission decision will be made by the professional judgment of the screening committee. Preference will be given to applicants who have strong academic records and positive experiences, abilities and an attitude that shows promise of a successful classroom teacher.Degree Requirements

Opportunities for Graduates
Graduates will have Kentucky teacher certification related to the program they complete.
Certification
All students who complete the Bachelors program will earn P-5 Elementary Certification. In addition, the program offers options for certification in such areas as Learning & Behavior Disorders (P-12), Early Childhood Education (Birth to age 5) or English as a Second Language (P-12).
