The B.S. in Early Elementary Education could be your start to an exciting and fulfilling career in teaching!
This program is for those who are seeking initial teacher certification. The B.S. in Early Elementary Education offers undergraduate options for P-12 certification in combination with concentrations in six specific teaching areas:
- Mathematics
- English
- Science
- Social Studies
- Spanish
- French
Also available is dual certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth-5), Learning and Behavior Disorders (P-12), and Moderate and Severe Disabilities (P-12).
The CEHD also offers a certification program for students who have an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, and who wish to pursue certification in Early Childhood Education only. The B.S. in Early Elementary Education with a concentration in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education leads to certification in Birth-5.

Application Deadline
Fall Admission – February 1st by 5:00 p.m.
Spring Admission - September 15th by 5:00 p.m.
Please note: If the application deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the admission portfolio may be submitted on the Monday after the deadline by 5:00 p.m.
The following academic requirements, writing and disposition documents, and forms comprise the application to the Professional Phase of the Bachelor of Science in Early Elementary Education. Please submit all by the application deadline as instructed above.
How to Apply to the Professional Phase of the Program
The teacher education admission portfolio is a combination of forms, transcripts, test scores, and other requirements that applicants will submit to the College of Education and Human Development. Questions about the application process should be directed to Taleia Fisher at 502-852-0587 or taleia.fisher @ louisville.edu.

If you have met the minimum requirements and met with an academic counselor, you can apply to the professional part of the program. If you have not, then you are encouraged to schedule an appointment BEFORE you start the application process! You may schedule an appointment by calling (502) 852-5597.
Once the application deadline has passed, all complete applications will be processed and sent to members of the faculty admissions screening committee – who will then contact competitive applicants for interview.
Interview (competitive applicants only)
Once all interviews have been completed, the faculty admissions screening committee will make admission decisions. Applicants will be notified by email of the admission decision. Those admitted will receive information about a mandatory orientation session for the program.

Career Pathways Certification
Graduates of the B.S. in Early Elementary Education are eligible to take the PRAXIS for certification in Early Elementary Education (P-5).
In addition, the program offers options for dual certification in such areas as Learning adn Behavior Disorders (P-12), Early Childhood Education (Birth-5) and Moderate and Severe Disabilities (P-12).

Minority Teacher Scholarship Program
Since 1985, the Minority Teacher Recruitment Project (MTRP) has been addressing the shortage of minority teachers in our nation's classrooms. The program is a partnership among the University of Louisville's College of Education and Human Development, the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), and the schools of the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative (OVEC).
Scholarships of up to $5,000 annually are available to qualifying full- or part-time students of color pursuing initial teacher certification at UofL. Visit the MTRP webpage to view more information about the scholarship program.
