Universal Design for Learning Model Schools
At present, there are four Phase I Universal Design for Learning (UDL) model schools that are working on expanding existing work and supporting the Phase II UDL model schools. In January 2005, the Phase I schools began their work to develop a school wide UDL program that would combine the development of a flexible curriculum with the integration of technology into instruction. These Phase I schools are: Strode Station Elementary (Clark County), South Livingston Elementary, Leslie County Middle, and Mercer County High.
Beginning November 1, 2007, eight Phase II model schools joined the project. The Phase II model school grant will focus on two areas: (1) Leveraging the power of professional development with the goal of developing UDL aligned instructional resources, strategies, and practice, and (2) Leveraging the power of educational technology with the installation and use of a state-of-the-art intelligent classroom to model UDL aligned best practices. These new UDL Model Schools are: Boyd County High, Campbell Ridge Elementary, Shearer Elementary, Shepherdsville Elementary, Taylor County Middle, and Trigg County.
