Kentucky Teacher Internship Program

The Kentucky Teacher Internship Program was designed to offer support to new teachers and encourage a culture of continuous professional growth. Using the New Teacher Standards adopted by Kentucky’s Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) in 1993, KTIP facilitates the transition from teacher preparation through induction. A three-member committee comprised of the principal, resource teacher, and university-appointed teacher educator guide and assess the intern’s progress throughout the first year of teaching. The principal serves as chair of the committee.

While adhering to basic precepts in place since 1985, the KTIP process and training have been altered to accommodate mandated changes effective with school year 2008-09. The KTIP Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) is a set of ten teaching tasks designed to provide opportunity for demonstration of Kentucky’s Teaching Standards. All resource teachers, administrators, and university-appointed teacher educators will need to be retrained in the revised process prior to September 2008 in order to serve on intern committees.

KTIP TPA Training Registration

Those who will serve on intern committees are required to complete an on-line assignment prior to the training session. Instructions for enrolling and materials for completion of the assignment will be mailed to your home address approximately two weeks prior to the training session. Anticipated completion time for this assignment if four hours. Only those who present evidence of having completed this preparatory assignment will be admitted to the training session. Defer completion of homework until the end of May.

All face-to-face training sessions are scheduled to last for one full day. Please register for one date only. Participants will receive a return email confirming registration. The cutoff date for registration is five days prior to the training. If a session is canceled for any reason participants will be notified and given opportunity to enroll for another date. Training sessions are scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM. A continental breakfast will be served.
