Hearing Council Application
Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the University of Louisville’s Student Conduct Hearing Council. The University Student Conduct Hearing Council provides an opportunity for students to serve the University community, develop life-long skills in facilitating and resolving conflicts, critical thinking, assertiveness, empathic listening, moral and ethical decision making, and promote civility and citizenship within the University of Louisville community.
The Student Conduct Hearing Council is comprised of a pool of approximately 30 members. Cases that come before the Student Conduct Hearing Council involve students or student organizations that have been charged with a violation of the Student Code of Conduct or RSO Code of Conduct, requiring a formal hearing process. Council members undergo a thorough educational training program to help develop the skills necessary for the position.
The Student Conduct Hearing Council will be utilized in all formal hearings. The council will be composed of three members chosen from the pool of trained Student Conduct Hearing Council members. The council will hear evidence and make recommendations regarding findings and sanctions to be imposed, if any, to the Dean of Students.
Student applicants for the Student Conduct Hearing Council must be full-time undergraduate (12 credit hours) or graduate students (9 credit hours), at the University of Louisville. Both on-campus and off campus students may apply. A minimum grade point average of 2.75 is required although first year students will be considered who may not hold a current GPA.
Academic or non-academic violations committed at the University of Louisville must be disclosed. Prior violations will not automatically disqualify applicants but are taken into consideration by the selection committee. Student Rights and Responsibilities will determine whether to invite applicants for an interview with the Assistant Dean of Students, or designee, based on the quality of the written application. Each applicant will be notified by the Dean of Students Office when a decision has been made regarding his/her application.
The University of Louisville is comprised of a diverse student body and it is imperative the Student Conduct Hearing Council reflect that diversity. The university strives to foster and sustain an environment of inclusiveness that empowers us all to achieve our highest potential. Students of all backgrounds and interests are encouraged to apply.
