Coach Pitino Supports Dress In Blue Day
March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month – it’s a time to focus on prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer. Coach Rick Pitino and the Kentucky Cancer Program are encouraging everyone to Dress in Blue on Friday, March 4, 2011 as part of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. A nationwide push is being led by the Colon Cancer Alliance to, “Save Lives, Promote Colon Cancer Awareness, and Dress in Blue!”

The purpose of Dress in Blue Day is to promote colorectal cancer awareness and encourage people to get screened. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the country as well as in Kentucky; killing nearly 900 people each year here in our state. Colorectal cancer screening saves lives, but unfortunately many people are not being screened. When colon cancer is found early and treated, the 5-year survival rate is 90%.
Please join Coach Pitino in raising awareness of this preventable disease. Help us spread the word about colorectal cancer and encourage your friends and family to get screened.
Dress in Blue on Friday, March 4th and tell your friends why!
