On October 2, the Saturday Academy returns for the 2010-2011 academic
year--a year that will bring the 20th anniversary of the opening of the "first"
Saturday Academy at DuValle in January 1991.
The African World/Black History seminar led by Dr. Blaine Hudson meets from
11:00 am to 12:30 pm; this year’s focus is "African American History." After
the seminar, community discussions on issues and culture follow from 12:45 pm
-2:00 pm.
The Saturday Academy is a community-based enrichment program in African
World history and culture for adolescents and adults--sponsored by the College
of Arts & Sciences (University of Louisville) in collaboration with the
Jefferson County Public Schools, with support from Councilwoman Cheri Bryant
Hamilton, the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, the Louisville
Urban League and the University of Louisville Signature Partnership Initiative.
The Saturday Academy is free and open to the public, and meets in the
DuValle Education Center Cafeteria, 3610 Bohne Avenue, in the Park DuValle
Community, north of Algonquin Parkway at 35th Street
