Betty Winston Baye earned a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University, a bachelor's degree from Hunter College, City University of New York (major communications). She studied at Harvard University as a Nieman Fellow in 1990-91. She was a reporter, editorial writer and columnist for The Courier-Journal from 1984 to June 2011. Betty is currently an adjunct professor at Bellarmine University, where she teaches "Women in the Civil Rights Movement." She is a motivational speaker and contributes bi-weekly commentaries on Simmons University's "Saturday Morning Solutions" show on WLOU-radio. Betty has penned two books, "The Africans," a novel, and "Blackbird," a collection of her Courier-Journal columns. She's founded the Zora Neale Hurston Readers' Circle, a book club, and is a long time member and former national, regional and local officer of the National Association of Black Journalists. Betty will be inducted into NABJ's Hall of Fame on Jan. 13, 2013. A native New Yorker, Betty is a member of St. Stephen Church, the Delta Sigma Theta sorority and Chums Inc. .
