Dental student at the Spirit of 45 event

Several units at the University of Louisville joined together with groups from throughout Louisville and the United States to commemorate the end of World War II.

As a way of honoring veterans, UofL dental faculty, staff and students took part in the 70th anniversary Spirit of 45 Commemoration at Bowman Field in Louisville on August 15. The dental school hosted a booth and students served as volunteers. Third year dental student Katie Kaleel helped organize the school’s involvement as her master community service project. The late Dr. Bill Mansfield served in World War II, and his son Dr. William Mansfield, Jr. also helped coordinate efforts.

Vintage military equipment, vehicles, aircraft and other items were on display during the event. Exhibits, demonstrations and entertainment were provided to evoke memories of Louisville during World War II.
