Smile Kentucky set for Feb. 7

Smile Kentucky at the dental school

More than 130 children from Bullitt, Henry, and Jefferson County schools will visit the UofL School of Dentistry on Preston Street Friday, Feb. 7 for free dental care, part of the Smile Kentucky! program. The dental school also will open it doors to nearly 30 children from Meade County at the new offices that opened in 2013 at Kosair Charities on Eastern Parkway.

Treatment is expected to be underway at least by 10a.m. at both locations.

Smile Kentucky! complements a national effort by the American Dental Association, Give Kids a Smile. The Louisville-based program, Smile Kentucky! began in 2002 as a community partnership to provide free dental education and dental screenings at school and free, comprehensive treatment to underserved children.

Smile Kentucky! includes over 50 partners and since 2002 has provided over $1 million dollars of free dentistry. The education program is now part of a statewide effort. The American Dental Association calls Smile Kentucky! a model for community partnerships.
