Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion

Dr. Sherry Babbage, sherry.babbage@louisville.edu, serves as the ULSD Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Babbage earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Louisville and has practiced dentistry for more than 30 years. She continues to provide dental care to a diverse patient pool from her West Louisville practice.  In addition to her clinical practice, she can be found in ULSD or serving in other capacities in her community and church.  She serves a the chair of the Louisville Metro Board of Health and has previously served as the ULSD Chair of the DMD Admissions Committee.  Dr. Babbage is the course director of the UofL Undergraduate course "Preview to Dentistry", and oversees multiple summer enrichment programs for pre-dental students.

Student Pipeline Programs

PEPP- The Professional Education and Preparation Programs (PEPP) is a four-week residential summer academic enrichment program for graduating high school seniors in Kentucky who are interested in dentistry or medicine.  Participants are housed on the University’s Belknap Campus and receive academic credit in college level pre-health courses, health career exposure, and early exposure to college life.  PEPP Participants are aided in the college transition and provided with tools to become well rounded students and competitive applicants for professional schools.

SMDEP- Summer Medical and Dental Education Program is an intensive six-week residential summer academic enrichment program for current undergraduate freshmen and sophomores. As a national program site, UofL’s SMDEP engages 80 scholars from across the nation, providing a introduction to the academic realities of medical and dental education.  Participants complete a three credit-hour course entitled, "Introduction to Fundamentals of Biomedical Sciences", with tuition paid by the program.  Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as the application is opens Nov. 1st and closes March 1st: http://smdep.org/apply-to-smdep.

MCAT/DAT Training Conference is summer residential summer workshop for Kentucky residents who have completed at least 2yrs of undergraduate coursework.  Participants participate in small group, interactive sessions focusing on MCAT or DAT preparation. They attend weekly supervised practice test sessions and also receive instruction support on application preparation, insights on interviews and interactive engagement with the medical and dental schools. Participants are also assisted with volunteer and research opportunities.

ULSD Early Admission Programs

ULSD offers opportunities for early admission for dentistry and dental hygiene.  Students from groups that are underrepresented in dentistry or from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
