Transfer Admissions

for qualified students from another U.S. dental school

The University of Louisville School of Dentistry considers transfer applications on a case-by-case basis. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified students who are currently enrolled in an ADA accredited dental school may be considered for transfer. The candidate must be in good standing and rank in the upper 30% of their class with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Consideration will be based on the quality of the candidate, resources, and space availability.

Transfer application to the University of Louisville is a multi-step process. Transfer students must contact the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in the Office of Admissions to request a transfer application form.

Email dmdadms@louisville.edu or call 502-852-5081.

The following credentials will be required:

  1. Competed University of Louisville School of Dentistry Transfer Application form.
  2. Residency Determination Form.
  3. Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (both pre-dental and dental).
  4. Dental Admissions Test scores
  5. National Board Dental Examination Part I results, if applicant has taken Part I.
  6. Current resume listing all undergraduate and graduate employment, research, and community service.
  7. Official description of the courses completed in the curriculum of their current dental school.
  8. Letter from the Dean (or designate) of the current dental school that verifies that the student is in good standing, the student’s GPA and Class Rank (on a yearly basis, if possible), and whether the student has ever been on academic or disciplinary probation.
  9. Three letters of recommendation

If the Admissions Committee chooses to pursue the application, an on-site interview will be scheduled with the applicant. Individuals accepted into the DMD program must meet with the Associate Dean for Predoctoral Affairs to determine placement into the curriculum. Applicants may seek transfer into any year of the DMD program, but are advised that transfer often results in the repeat of a year. Because of the difference in curricula transfer process it is very difficult and does not occur often.

Applications must be complete by Jan. 1 of the desired year of admission.
