Silveira appointed department chair

Anibal Silveira, DDSAnibal M. Silveira, DDS will serve as the new chair of the Department of Orthodontic, Pediatric and Geriatric Dentistry. Dr. Silveira has taught at the UofL School of Dentistry since the early 90's, and most recently acted as interim chair.

After receiving a DDS  from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte in  Brazil (UFRN), Dr. Silveira took part in a fellowship in pediatric dentistry with Project Hope Brazil.

Dr. Silveira then received his postgraduate training in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics from Eastman Dental Center and the University of Rochester.

 

Bednar joins Division of Orthodontics

Dr. Eric BednarDr. Eric Bednar recently joined the faculty in the Division of Orthodontics.  Dr. Bednar completed dental school and orthodontic residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Following his residency, he joined the UNC orthodontic faculty full-time as the William R. Proffit Teaching Fellow, where he was involved in patient care, teaching and research.

Since joining the University of Louisville faculty, Dr. Bednar is involved in clinical and didactic teaching of dental students and graduate orthodontic residents.  His specific areas of research and interest have been distance learning via videoconferencing, and combined surgical-orthodontic treatment (orthognathic surgery) for patients with severe skeletal jaw discrepancies.  He also works with the Maxillofacial Developmental Deformities Team, teaching surgical-orthodontic principles and practices to graduate residents, and participating in the treatment of these patients in the graduate orthodontic clinic.

Dr. Bednar maintains a private orthodontic practice 2 days per week near his home in Oldham County, where he lives with his wife and 5 children.
