Background:
Educated at the Medical College of Virginia–Virginia Commonwealth University (undergraduate) with a BS in Dental Hygiene, Dr. Mercke practiced dental hygiene for eight years before attending the University of Louisville-School of Dentistry, earning a DMD in 1992.  Dr. Mercke practiced General Dentistry for twenty years in Virginia before joining the faculty at U of L.
