School of Dentistry earns recognition for community service & building renovation project

Dental students receive award in Frankfort

 

  • Kentucky lawmakers recognized dental school faculty, alumni and students on Feb. 24 for their service to the people of Appalachia. Among those honored at the Kentucky State Capitol were Farzan Pouranfar, Caroline Curtis, Paul Maizan, Amy Boeckermann, Brooke Osgood Fukuoka and Trey Parker. The recognition highlighted the Tarrson Award from the American Dental Association for Dental School Community Leadership. Over the past several years, ULSD has regularly participated in Remote Area Medical clinics in Pikeville and Somerset – the school helped deliver free dental treatment to more than 1,600 patients in 2011.

  • The Associated General Contractors of Kentucky presented UofL the Build Kentucky Award for the School of Dentistry renovation.
  • The School of Dentistry and UofL also received a Cornerstone Award from the Louisville Downtown Management District – the renovation project was highlighted as the largest project in the city in 2011.
