ULEAD Program

University of Louisville Early Admission to Dentistry

This program is open to Kentucky high school seniors who meet all University requirements for Kentucky residency. Those who have been admitted to the University of Louisville and graduate from high school with a 3.75 or higher grade point average (GPA) and who score at least 30 on the ACT or 1340 on the SAT are eligible.

Other factors considered in the admissions process include whether the applicant:

  • Has demonstrated interest in issues affecting underserved populations
  • Submits a strong personal statement and strong letters of recommendation
  • Meets and maintains minimum technical standards for admission and matriculation (see website).

Application Process

Applicants must:

  • have been admitted to the University of Louisville
  • submit the ULEAD application online at:  https://vhost.louisville.edu/student/services/admissions/sch/
  • submit a personal statement*
  • submit three letters of recommendation (two from teachers and one from a community member)*
  • submit documentation of at least 12 hours of observation of dental practice*

Selected candidates will interview with the Admissions Committee.

The application deadline is Jan. 15.

Award

The ULEAD program does not carry a monetary award; however, applicants may be eligible to apply for other scholarships. Students selected for the program will be offered admission into a specific dental school class four years from the freshman year of undergraduate studies.

Admission contingencies:

In order to be automatically admitted into the dental school class which was determined upon acceptance to ULEAD, participants must:

  • maintain a cumulative and Biology, Chemistry and Physics (BCP) grade point average of 3.3 or above in undergraduate studies while successfully completing required science courses
  • earn a Bachelors degree prior to matriculating into dental school
  • score at or above the national mean on each section of the Dental Admissions Test (DAT)
  • successfully complete Biology 396, Preview to Dentistry in the junior year (Note: There are pre-requisite requirements for this course)
  • display ethical qualities and conduct
  • attend selected programs which may include, but are not limited to ULSD meetings, conferences, and educational experiences, participating in recruitment and community service activities, interacting with mentors, summer pre-dental programs, etc.
  • Before matriculation into dental school, the Student Affairs staff will present a history of the participant’s activities while an undergraduate student. Input from Admissions Committee members who were involved in any of these activities will be included, if it occurred.
  • formally apply to ULSD through AADSAS before July 1 of the year before anticipated admission to dental school (after the junior year of the undergraduate program).

Students from groups that are underrepresented in dentistry or from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
