Enhancing your class with Blogs and Wikis (1 hour)
Using social media can seem foreign, difficult to begin, and tricky to maintain within the classroom, but this has been made easy with ready-made tools accessible within your courses. What once seemed impossible has quickly become a simple, robust learning tool in your online or face-to-face classroom. Join with us as we explore how to reach out to students individually or collectively using blog, journal, or wiki tools available in Blackboard.
Whether you would like to streamline your group projects or increase student discussion, these social media tools can be used to reach out to students in a modern, applicable fashion, promote digital literacy, and help ease your role as the instructor. Together we will discuss how to easily create these assignments, why this technology is useful, and best practices in creating and moderating these tools.
Objectives:
- You will create a journal, blog, and wiki within Blackboard to practice.
- You will learn to grant permissions within these tools to individuals, groups, courses, and the world!
- You will learn how to track student progress within a wiki with a few quick clicks!
- We will discuss strategies for using journals, blogs, and wikis for teaching and active learning.
