Blackboard Advanced

Blackboard is an integral part of the instructional process at UofL. Each semester, nearly one-third of all courses taught at the university have an active Blackboard presence. Some professors use Blackboard to simply store course materials, while others create fully-online course environments.

The Delphi Center is pleased to provide the training you need to create and manage your online course presence.

Capturing Your Course with Tegrity (1 hour + 30 minutes (optional) hands-on lab)

Tegrity is the university’s new class capture system. It can be used to record the instructor’s computer screen and voice, providing students with an opportunity to replay class content online, or on iPods and other mobile devices. The purpose of this seminar is to discuss the utility of the Tegrity system from an instructor’s perspective. A faculty member will discuss how they used the Tegrity system during the pilots and review student and instructor reactions to its use. Effective strategies for incorporating Tegrity into various styles of instruction and general best practices for using the Tegrity system will also be discussed. Presenters will demonstrate how to record and make content available to participants using Tegrity. At the end of the seminar, participants will have 30 minutes of hands-on computer lab time to practice using Tegrity, if desired.

For additional information, visit our Tegrity help pages.

Objectives:

  • Be able to discuss benefits of using Tegrity in classroom instruction.
  • Have reviewed the results of student and instructor surveys from the UofL Tegrity pilots.
  • Have reviewed effective ways that Tegrity may be used in different disciplines to support learning.
  • Be able to record content with Tegrity and make it available to students.
  • Be able to control Tegrity options and settings.
  • Be able to produce basic reports from Tegrity on student viewing and downloading of content.

Respondus

Respondus is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard. Exams can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment, or moved from one LMS to another. Whether you are a veteran of online testing or relatively new to it, Respondus will save you hours on each project. This one hour seminar will give you the insight and steps it takes to use word formatted exams and quizzes and bring them into Blackboard.

Respondus LockDown Browser™

Respondus LockDown Browser™ is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Blackboard. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser™ they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit it for grading. Lockdown Browser is available for both Windows and Mac. This one hour seminar will give you the instructions you need to have your students use this secure browser to take exams and quizzes for your class. You will leave class with the information and help sheets for your students to use for installing and completing an exam or quiz using LockDown Browser™.

Blackboard Rubrics

Using Blackboard's New Tool

Be more organized and save time with Blackboard Rubrics! In this session you will learn how to enter, edit and grade with the Rubrics tool. Rubrics can be used to help you evaluate student work consistently and objectively by listing evaluation criteria for any given assignment or gradable Discussion Board posting. Rubrics can help students organize their efforts to meet the requirements of an assignment, while you can use rubrics to explain your evaluation to students. During grading, as scores and feedback are entered into a Rubric they are also automatically reflected in the Grade Center, which becomes a considerable time saver.
