About the Delphi Center

by Wallin,Sarah Ice last modified Oct 19, 2009 09:10 AM

In July, 2000 the Delphi Center was established to support faculty who use technology in teaching.

The expanded mission of the new Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning is promotion of excellence in teaching and learning through:

  • Workshops, conferences and materials to help faculty improve teaching
  • Development or promotion of methods to measure effective teaching and learning
  • Support for both face-to-face and technology-based instruction
  • Research in teaching and learning methodologies
  • Facilitation of campus-wide conversations and activities about the university’s central mission of teaching and learning

To see the Delphi Center's accomplishments, please select the appropriate annual report below:

Dr. Gale Rhodes leads the Delphi Center’s activities with guidance from two select groups: a Faculty Advisory Committee and the Delphi Fellows. Working closely with Dr. Rhodes and the Office of the Provost, the Faculty Advisory Committee:

  • Supports the overall mission of the Delphi Center
  • Outlines the annual plan of teaching and learning workshops
  • Suggests opportunities for professional growth and development, collegial exchange of innovative ideas, instructional and technical support, advisement, and consultation
  • Identifies and coordinates print and electronic resources for all forms of instruction, teaching and learning; and provides greater visibility and accessibility of appropriate resources by all faculty
  • Promotes collaboration among faculty about teaching and learning

Development activities will be focused in the Delphi Fellows—university faculty selected for their outstanding teaching and learning practices and willingness to engage faculty colleagues. The Fellows will lead discussions about pedagogy, intervention, course design, teaching and learning styles, and other elements outlined by the Faculty Advisory Committee.

Delphi staff members train faculty in distance education course design and development, as well as Blackboard Learning Management System. Faculty support is also available through the iDAT and Blackboard Support Teams. Delphi staff members also provide student support services for all distance education courses and degree programs.
